Student Guidelines
Agendas
Your child will be recording all homework in an agenda. It must be signed by a parent/guardian every Thursday night . Assignments will also be posted on this website.
Homework/Classwork
A percentage of trimester grades will include homework and classwork. Work will receive a grade of 0-100 or assessed on a “done/not done” basis (a check mark). Acceptable homework and class work should be legible, properly labeled and on loose-leaf paper. Homework assignments will be written daily on a homework board in each classroom. Students are responsible for copying all assignments into their agenda. Teachers communicate so as to balance the amount of work assigned.
Assignments must be turned in on time due to the fact that they are often utilized in class as an
additional teaching tool. If an assignment is late, points will be deducted. Project grades will be lowered for each day the assignment is late. Unusual circumstances may be explained only in a note from a parent.
Quite often, several days are given to complete longer homework assignments. Due dates will be
written in the agenda as specified. Students are urged to complete portions of the assignment nightly so as not to become overwhelmed the night before it is due.
In the case of absence, students will be given two days for each day absent to complete all missed tests and quizzes. If your child is absent for one day only, your child’s work will be gathered and placed aside for the following day and you need not call the office to have work sent home. If your child is absent for two or more days, and you would like to pick up missed work, please call the office by 10:00 am. In order to give time needed to compile the work and send written directions if needed, we ask that all work be picked up in the office after 1:00. All missed assignments should be returned within a week.
Tests
All upcoming tests and quizzes will be written in the agenda. They should use this time to prepare adequately. Please check the agenda frequently.
Reading Material
Students are required to bring a chapter book of their choice with them to each class. Appropriate reading material is required.
Subject Specifications
Work completed for any subject must have the proper heading and be written on loose-leaf paper using the MLA heading. Work may be completed in pencil, blue or black ink, or typed. Answers must be written in complete sentences unless otherwise stated.
Parent Communications
I will try to respond to parent communications as soon a possible, however, at times this may not be possible due to teaching schedules, duties, and involvement in extracurricular activities. Please be patient since I value the teaching time with my classes. In most cases, your concerns can be addressed via the agenda or a telephone call, however, if you feel a conference is in fact necessary, please send a note or call the office for an appointment.
My main goal as your child’s teacher is to assist him/her with learning strategies in order to develop a sense of accomplishment in what has been mastered and a genuine desire to continue learning at his/her next level. This will require support and encouragement from you, as the first and primary teacher of your child, and his/her teachers, as an extension of this.
